Where it All Began...

"The Road goes ever on and on. Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone, And I must follow, if I can
Pursuing it with eager feet, Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say" ~ J.R.R Tolkien

Hello readers,

Apart from responding to your queries on prenatal advice and hydrops, I haven't had time to update.

I know some of you have been asking about the places I went to in Bali.

I will update soon I promise.

It has been really, really busy.

And today is going to be interesting, because I am going back to my alma mater, not as a student, but as panelist for a talk.

Gua dah tua beb. *Mode cari uban mana tahu takut dah ada LOL*

I am hoping to help and give insight in any way I can to the young ones.

I cannot believe I have been in practice for 7+ years now. It feels just like yesterday I was called to the Bar.

This is where EVERYTHING began.

Memories will flood.

Those skeletons in my closet will be rattling on my closet door, begging to be let out.

You know what?

Let's face our demons and skeletons and memories.

Those skeletons? I am going to let them out and dance with them.

So let's DANCE

Have a good weekend ahead.

Much love from Airiel and I.

Peace and love to everyone.

Peace

What is peace really?

Is it living in a country where there is no war? And yet I am sure my Aisha was at peace in her heart in war torn Gaza till the day she passed away.

Is it living in a situation where you have mounds of cash at your disposal? And yet I see people sweeping rubbish on the streets smiling, not beset by troubles with frown on their faces like the faces I see in my office everyday in their 1 thousand ringgit immaculately pressed Hugo Boss shirts and Ferragamo shoes.

Is it living knowing that you are loved by the people whom you love? But which one of us are ever truly loved and truly loves in return? More often than not love is the cause of our misery is it not? the chain that binds us and torments our dreams and memories?

I am going to be 30 this year and more than anything, I want to just live my life in peace...

I want to wake up to see Airiel's face - pray 5 times a day - go to work and be appreciated for what I do - go home and see Airiel's face - sleep with a kiss from Airiel -  buy my fave bags, shoes and clothes when I feel like it - take vacations - do things on my bucket list - hang out with my girls - hang out with my best friend - and go to sleep without having nasty nightmares.

That to me is inner peace.

I want to live my life free from drama, from pain and from constant turbulence.

This is my life and I want to live it in the best way possible.

I am still trying to figure out what is the best way...

Kacau Daun

Feeling weaker by the day these days. On some days its bearable, on most it is not.

That is the perils of pregnancy and motherhood. The things we females do to populate this earth.

Anyways, that is not the subject of my blog post today. On my way to work, I tuned in to Mix FM where a girl called up stating the following:-

(i) that she approached a guy at work and started flirting with him recently;

(ii) that the guy reciprocated;

(iii) that soon afterwards she heard a rumour that he was engaged; and

(iv) and she managed to get confirmation that it was in fact true that he was.

She was saying that the guy always seemed miserable and that she believes she could make him happier and wants to go for him, knowing very well that he is engaged.

Now, I immediately got agitated and started to speak to myself in the car and saying how inappropriate this conduct was. But then I realised one thing, I point 1 finger at her, and there are about 4 other fingers pointing back at me.

Yes, Aries was in a long term, serious relationship when he met me. In fact, there were rumours that he was already engaged at the time (which I found out later was untrue of course). But anyhow, the point is, he was in an actual relationship, which give or take he was already in for 6 years of his life with a girl from his hometown, a beautiful one too I might add. How did I know she was pretty? I met her once in fact and I have to say, to this day I do wonder what the hell did he saw in me that he did not in her (since she was pretty, spoke Kelantanese and probably would fit into his family dynamics a lot better than I ever will).

In hindsight, the relationship that Aries had with her ended on an ugly note and she was very angry (who wouldn't be?) and the funny thing was, I never knew about her until Aries told me and took me to see her. Yes, I was under the impression that my floppy haired, skinny, bad boy Aries was single and ready to mingle. Boy, was I naive. I did try at one point to stop the madness and ask him to go back to this innocent, beautiful girl that he had spent 6 years being with, but he would have none of it. He was adamant that I was the ONE.

Is my lack of knowledge a mere reason for me to excuse myself for what took place? Do I tell myself at the time that it was JUST a relationship and nothing more, so it is ok then? It maybe so, but I cannot change the fact that my presence hurt another person immensely and eventually became the reason for a breakdown of a serious, long term relationship. She is of course happily married now and have a slew of kids to boot (I would know as she is from the same village as Aries and my MIL knows everything that there is to know there hahaha).

Maybe it is fate, atau jodoh orang kata. But I accept responsibility for what I did and the pain I caused to another human being.

At the end of the day, I suppose the line between what is right and wrong sometimes are not entirely clear, and we have to make decisions in our life that we have to live with.

Something to think about kan?

I am thankful [Part 2]

Hi everyone,

I shall be making these kind of posts a regular in my blog to remind myself to always be thankful. Here goes
 Airiel doing his ABC's

Playground fiesta! Can anybody guess where this is?

This is Airiel's version of solat. He was actually concentrating until he saw my camera..haiyaaa

Did you know that Islam is the only faith which makes it compulsory i.e wajib for the privileged citizens to share a certain percentage of their wealth with the less fortunate? It is NOT charity tau? It is 'zakat'. Note that there is a huge difference between the two. I can explain at length...but that is a material for another post I guess.

I hope everyone will have a good week until Friday!

Down in the Dumps

You know there are some days when you wake up out of the wrong side of the bed and everything goes wrong for you? Alas, that was one of these days for me.

Woke up to a storm in the morning and got caught in a two (2) hour traffic jam for absolutely no reason. NO accident, no nothing. Just cars driving extremely slowly.

Got to the office only to find there was absolutely NO parking. After 20 minutes of going round and round in the car park,  I went back out and tried another entrance to another floor of the car park which is strangely enough not connected to the other floors. Why oh why can't all the floors be linked?

Got to the office and switched on my PC. And lo and behold my office email would not start. After the third attempt at switching the PC and off again, I called the IT guys to fix it. What are the odds of them not knowing what was wrong with my PC? But that was what happened. In the end I had to use my external email which can be opened via internet browser to send and receive emails.

And then we received some last minute instructions after lunch from clients about filing a conditional appearance, and the time to enter appearance expires tomorrow. So what does that mean? It means I had to draft, get the draft approved, file the application via e-filing, get the application sealed and out and get a date for hearing of the application for leave to enter conditional appearance before end of business based on instructions that were received after lunch. Because I need it to be heard tomorrow, and obtain that leave tomorrow so I can enter conditional appearance tomorrow.

Trust me the drafting was the easy part. It was the e-filing that got me almost in tears. We had actually filed another application for other defendants in the same suit yesterday, so we know the officer assisting the particular judge this matter was going to be heard before. I had to call him up and begged him to take the finalised application and to give it to the Judge so that it can be fixed tomorrow as well with the earlier application filed yesterday while giving an undertaking that we shall be filing it by way of e-filing at the same time.

And then the nightmare of e-filing began. It took 2 hours to load the SIC and the Certificate of Urgency. It took another 1 hour to load the affidavit in support. We only managed to file everything very late in the day, and I kept on receiving calls from the officer asking why it wasn't uploaded on his system yet. Adoiiii...

After all the drama I managed to get all applications to be heard tomorrow.

And then I started feeling feverish. It must be the bug that nenda brought back from the Philippines which then spread to Atuk and Bonda and now me. So I was feeling dizzy and downed 2 nice panadol actifast and hope that I am alright for tomorrow's hearing because I am literally losing my voice.

Adoii, the only good thing about the day? A bowl of budu freshly made by Aries waiting for me when I reached home and Airiel's chirpy chatter about his school break cooking programme today.

Moga esok tak hilang suara berdepan hakim pula.

Hope your day and week will be better off than mine guys.

My SII is back!

Yes it is!

And how happy I am to get it repaired and all nice and new. And with that, my love for taking pictures has resumed.

Although am currently having difficulty typing as I have stitches in my right arm, I just had to share with you the highlights of last week and the week before.

My in laws dropped by and we had a lovely family weekend. I love love the middle pic where Airiel is posing with little Eisya, his cousin. So cutee!!!

My Airiel, with his passion for books and colouring and crafts as well. The bottom pictures are of him trying to fit into his old Bumbo seat and amusing me to no end.

The book that I am currently reading. A collection of short fictional stories of the paranormal. About 2 more stories before I finish.

I am lamenting over the fact that I do not have enough room to store my collection of bags. Sigh...

Happy Monday everyone. Have a good one!

Global March to Jurusalem

We may curse, belittle, poke fun at each other for our political inclinations.

We may judge ourselves better than others.

We may have more or less than others.

We may have different faiths and pray to God or Gods of our own belief.

But let us unite and end the cruelty. Let us unite and show the world that we do not tolerate any breach of human rights.

Let us march to Jurusalem and tell them ENOUGH.

I took leave for this tomorrow. I may not vote in the upcoming election, but I shall march to Jurusalem for a cause that I think is truly worthy.

We have talked and talked for too long. Let us walk...

See you tomorrow, people of the world.

Disturbed...

There are just some things you see or hear which just disturbs you and makes you reflect on your life and the people around you. I have had a whole week of those...

Early this week I saw 2 friends of mine on FB having a political debate (if you could call it that) about the issue of the handicapped farmer who was stopped all aid from the Sarawak Assistant Minister of Modernisation and Agriculture because of his political affiliations. One naturally was condemning the ruling party coalition while the other of course, was acting in its defence. As the debate heightened and name calling about that political party and this political party started to surface, I asked them 'Wait guys, has anybody thought about the farmer?'. In usual fashion of course, this being Malaysia, I was met with overwhelming silence. So, whilst everyone was talking about how cruel and/or mean one political party is over the other, no one cared about the fate of the handicapped farmer. Not really.

And today I saw on FB a video of an old, aging mother who has been abandoned by her child and/or family and/or whoever in a budget hotel. Even the reporter (a male no less) who covered the story was openly sobbing as the old, teethless makcik (whose words you cannot really make out) cried her heart out. I was disturbed because I was reminded of something I read regarding filial obligations on FB as well. I realise that our generation (and by this I mean mine) tries to rationalise almost everything, even obligations we owe to the most sacred of persons, our parents. What I read actually makes perfect logical sense of course, but then again there are some things in life which logic simply plays no part in, you know what I mean? I cannot help but wonder whether these rationalisations questioning the duty in which we owe our parents which I read about are what brought that crying, ailing and toothless makcik to that hotel, only to be left there.

I am a parent myself and know that one day, I will outlive my usefulness. I will grow old and will not see as well, would have all my teeth fall out and may need assistance to walk, eat, bathe, wear my clothes. I know that I have made my own choices when I decided to have children, to carry each of them in my belly for 9 months, to endure the pain of labour, to spend the remainder of my youth providing for them the best I can and how I try to be the best parent I could to them. I know that my children did not have the privilege of choosing the parents that they perhaps would have wished to have as opposed to just me and Aries. I know all that.

At the back of my mind I just wonder, would my children one day tell me 'You chose to have me as a child but I did not choose you as my mother'? Would my children one day tell me 'It is your job and responsibility to raise me, but I am under no duty to do the same'? or that 'You did not do a good job as a mother'?

Would I be crying to a camera, unable to speak and having strangers bathe me, change my diapers and feed me like what I saw today?

Disturbed I am, to say the least...

A weekend of hits and misses

Weekends are usually great for me, but the last weekend I had, well it was a bittersweet.

It was great to have Aries back for the weekend, but it was just one of those weekends where you get tired of the routine of being a weekend husband and wife. I was fresh being in tears (in the office no less on a Friday evening) after Nenda and Atuk wanted me to come home early as they had to go and balik kampung but I couldn't as I had to rush something.

It made me feel like I am a bad mother. And I honestly can withstand any crap anyone throws at me, save for anything that is related to my son. It was not anything really, just Atuk and Nenda saying that I should come home early so that Airiel won't  be at home alone with her nanny, and me being overly sensitive. But I was upset and annoyed regardless. I felt annoyed that Aries can be away for so long and be here on the weekends and that was totally acceptable and normal. But if I was late for one day out of a week, I feel like I am not trying hard enough to be at home. Sigh. Its not like Atuk and Nenda said anything, its just how I feel, like I am not doing or trying hard enough. It affects me to no end.

So in the end, Aries had to listen to me talking about how I wanted him home more often for the whole 40 mins drive from LCCT to home at 1.00 a.m in the morning. Poor him, he stayed completely quiet throughout.

The weekend was great because I took Airiel to the Taman Desa Waterpark (which honestly is a great, cheap and quaint little alternative to overcrowded Sunway Lagoon) and after about an hour or so, Airiel started to warm up to the slides and water (he has a fear of the pools as he fell into our fish pond when he was rather small, courtesy of one negligent, always on the phone with boys maid who is now no longer with us).

But it was also in Taman Desa Waterpark did I drop my beloved Samsung SII into the water. It was my fault. I wanted to take it along so that I can take pics of Airiel playing, but in my haste to get into the water with him, I dropped it. I wasn't that upset at first, but after about 5 hours later and when my Samsung SII couldn't be switched on, I realised that it was really a goner. Sigh. 2 thousand smackaroonies gone in flames or rather, gone underwater. Sigh

The weekend was great because we got to go out together as a family. But this weekend was supposed to be the weekend that I got Stevie back, but then Aries couldn't do it because his version of spoiler yang 'up' skit tak sampai lagi. So we had to drive around in Bambi. And suddenly on Sunday afternoon the front skirting of Bambi fell down after Aries reversed the Bambi out of the house. Standardla kan, nasib kereta yang terlampau lowered. And I got all flustered and worried because I didn't want to drive around in an unsafe car, I mean if any other skirting jatuh, Aries won't be here to help. I would be alone, and that thought freaked me out. Sigh

And you know the piece of work I was supposed to rush. Of course I was not able to do it after being so upset on a Friday evening right? So after sending Aries to the airport on the Sunday, coming back home, playing and watching Star Wars  with Airiel and putting him to bed, I finished the work, circulated the same to bosses at 2.00 a.m and ended up unable to sleep as my mind was working in a rushed daze.

I had a fitful sleep, woke up early and groggy and rushed to the office super early to finalise and file everything TODAY. Yes, TODAY. I drafted something on Sunday midnight to file and serve on Monday. Sigh.

Like I said, hits and misses. Hits and misses.

I hope the remainder of the week will be better.

Random, Part 1 [2012]

This is a completely random post, but I absolutely have to share the things that have made me smile today.

This is my current absolute favourite pen at the moment, a cheapo RM7.00 fountain pen. I love the way my office signature comes out on this, and it looks quite nice when I scribble stuff. Haha

My new theme I downloaded for Red. Bukankah ini sgt comel?

Penangan Food Poisoning

Urrghh, last week Tuesday night I was struck by food poisoning during one of my and the hubs' outing to try out new places to eat. It was epic...

It was so bad that I had a case of tak tahan muntah and vomited on the stairs in my house all the way to the bathroom...It was so bad I vomited out of my nose. It was so bad that at one point of time I had stuff coming out of both ends of my body... AT THE SAME TIME.Yupp, epic proportions.

It was not half as bad as Bonda's food poisoning though. Hers (well, her worst one to date) lasted 3 days and she ended up having to CRAWL to the bathroom to vomit. She had to put a water drip on herself because she was so dehydrated. That was just crazy.

Why am I blogging about something so gross? Well, because it has changed my outlook on food since. At the moment, I cannot even look or smell food. All food I look at would make me want to vomit. I just can't bring myself to eat. This has lasted a week!

I am distressed as I consider myself quite the foodie!! And now I can't look at food at all without having a queasy tummy! I now eat small portions of bread, maybe fruit juices at a time but that's about all. At times my body craves sugar so bad, I sip small amounts of root beer but my mind and tummy just can't bear the thought of letting any food go down in my tummy.

I suppose when you have the memory of vomiting out of your nose because of food, you tend not to like food anymore!.

Hope this passes. Miss my old foodie self.

It's a man's world out there..

I don't know why most of my friends would tell me and ask for my advice when having any marital issues. Maybe they know from my blog that I have faced them before and as I have survived, they would want to know how.

A dear friend is going through some tough times and permanent changes in her life. I hope she is strong enough to go through it.

Honestly, I am baffled by the amount of broken families, cheating spouses and marital problems that I have encountered in the short period that I have been on this earth.

We see lectures in TV, radio and facebook about the responsibilities and/or duties of a woman but I find that there so very little talk about the responsibilities and/or duties of a man. Is it because when a female ustazah talks about the responsiblities of a man, people think she must be emotional? And why doesn't the ustaz talk about it more? Is it because he is a man? I don't know. Shouldn't the man be the focus, as they are the leaders and protectors and are supposed to lead us?

I don't know, I have seen families broken in front of my eyes because a husband forgets his financial responsibilities, his filial obligations, his role as a father. Tergila-gilakan perempuan yang bukan halal baginya sampai lupa segala. Mengejar harta-benda sampai lupa agama. Mahukan kebebasan dari keluarga yang melemaskan kononnya tapi tidak tahu batasannya.

A man once told me,  that a woman can forgive a cheating husband but a man cannot forgive a cheating wife because we are built differently. And I asked him, is that really so? How are we built differently? Does it mean that women feel less pain when she finds out her husband is having sex with another woman and/or women and the man feels more pain when he finds out that his wife is having sex with another man and/or men?

The man kept quiet. I am sure that he knows deep down, the pain felt for us females is the same as felt by the men. But why do we women stay? I don't know. Maybe we look at the faces of our children and cannot bear to have them grow up without a father. Would a man care about that? I mean if he divorces his wife, he wouldn't have the baggage of having to take care of this children. The ex-wife would. He could just remarry and start over. See your kids once a week, pay a monthly allowance (and some don't even do that). Pretty easy upkeep for a child you are supposed to be responsible for bringing into this world kan? Maybe that's why its easier for the men to leave as they have less to think about.

I tell my friends, whatever you do..make sure you have means to an income. Jangan duduk rumah sahaja harapkan suami. You know the man who shares your bed, the father of your children...how many of them actually think housework is WORK? They come home, complain they're tired, sit themselves in front of the TV and they merely work a 12 hour day maximum. What about you, the housewife who works 24 hours, round the clock. Non-stop?

I had a friend whose husband looked down upon his wife and made a snide comment about her being a housewife. I told her to conduct a social experiment. I told her to start charging her husband for  everything she does. The husband said ok. So she charged what a dobi would charge for washing clothes, ironing of all the family's clothes. She charged normal gerai rates for all the food she cooked and the drinks she made. She charged standard house cleaner rates for all the housework that she did.

I told her to itemise everything and put it in an official bill to her husband and at the end of the week when the bill was presented to her husband, her husband looked at the itemised bill, popped his eyes and realised how he could not afford his wife had she charged him for everything that she did. He said sorry and has never made a comment about his wife being a housewife ever since. She tells me he is now very appreciative of what she does.

No guys, this is not about telling wives to berkira dengan suami, this is about getting husbands to wake up and appreciate what their wives do for them.

And so yes, I tell my friends to have an income. And one friend tells me of a new dilemma she faces after having an income. When she wants some duit belanja dari suami, you know what the suami says? 'Apa jadi dengan duit gaji hang bebanyak tu?' . So now, not only does she work and have to do housework. She gets no financial help from her husband because her husband uses the fact that she has a job to squeeze himself out of it.

Dari Abu Bakrah bahawa Rasulullah s.a.w bersabda:”suatu kaum tidak akan beruntung kerana mereka menyerahkan urusan-urusan mereka kepada wanita”. (H.R Bukhary, Tarmizi dan Nasa’i)

I almost fell off my chair. I tell my friend, then take what you need only without his knowledge. She almost fell of her chair hahaha.

Know that your wife can take your money without your knowledge for their needs and children's needs. Yang isteri plak, janganlah ambil melampau sgt. Asal cukup makan dan minum dan pakai anak-anak ok?

For the men who loves to keluar lewat-lewat malam untuk suka suki joli, tipu bini cakap pergi ceramah kat masjid tapi sebenarnya gi karaoke red box dengan God knows who:-

Dari Jabir: Nabi s.a.w melarang suami mengetuk pintu keluarganya pada malam hari,
melarang berkhianat kepada mereka atau mencari-cari kesalahan mereka. (H.R Muslim)

Haaa, balik rumah jgn dok jerit jerit marah bini suruh buka pintu. Dok menipu khianat bagai Nabi marah ok?

Sigh...I realise that we are living in a man's world. We have reversed all the work our revered Prophet has done to liberate and elevate women to a higher level and freedom. Years of cultural brainwash in a male dominated Malay society where the actions of a man are never questioned and where men, relishing in the position they have been afforded to, forgets that they were put there in the first place for a reason, and not just because of the fact that they are men.

I truly believe that the downfall of our society is due to faulty leaders, leaders of our country, leaders of our religion, leaders of society and leaders of our family. Jika tiada pemimpin yang berkaliber, yang arif hukum dan tanggungjawab mereka di sisi agama, bagaimana org di bawah pimpinan mahu mengikut? Who do they emulate? Who do they follow?

My boys, I hope that you will be the best husband, father, leader to the family, to the community, society and the country.

Amin

Kohinoor, Solaris Dutamas

I must say, this is one of the hidden gems of Solaris Dutamas indeed. I have been to this restaurant which serves authentic North Indian cuisine at least 3 times and have never been disappointed with the food. My colleague NIN and I are ardent fans of this place.

While waiting for our mains...we were given complimentary munchies. The pakoras are not the soggy types that you would find in most mamak shops, these are crunchy and full of flavour. We were also served some fresh poppadoms with a cool mint dip and a sweet sauce. Heaven!!

This is our vege order. Mushroom. I honestly forgot the name of the dish... but wow, it was so full of flavour

The chicken order of the day, sucker of a customer I am, I can't remember the name of the dish!! but it was slowly spicy with pronounced flavours that burst with every bite!!

My rice and our lamb order! lamb kebabs!! There are at least 10 varieties of lamb kebab dishes alone. The meat was red from the ingredients it was marinated in. Honestly every bite was just pure unadulterated food porn for me. Yummy till the very last bite.

The website for Kohinoor can be found here

I hope you will enjoy the food as I did once you dine here!!

Airiel's Playschool

Just some updates on Airiel. He started playschool last week.

I dare say he looks like he is having fun! He cries everytime I drop him off and it just breaks my heart. But then his teacher sends me these photos and my heart just melts and I feel a little bit jealous even. I can't be there to see all this. Sigh

He'll turn 3 this march!

Ohh, no matter how many other things burn and burn me. This is the one thing that keeps me going.

My Airiel...my son...my soul
