Goodbye Gabriel Garcia Marquez

"We read to know we're not alone..." ~ William Nicholson

Anybody that knows me, knows that I am a bookworm. I read anything and everything I can get my hands on. I spend a huge portion of my salary buying books and I hope to teach Airiel to have the same passion for reading as I do.

One of my most favourite authors passed away. Those who read would know what a legend this Nobel Prize winning author was. Those who don't won't appreciate this post.

This is like my most favourite picture of him ever..

I find people who can write and engage people to read more of what they have written fascinating. I always wonder what it is that they can see in their heads and minds for them to create universes, worlds, characters that just blows us away and evokes our emotions. Books have taken me to places I have never been, to meet people I have never known. They make me laugh, they reduce me to tears. They lift me up, they break me down. They induce extreme happiness and intolerable pain right until the last page. These are the power of words, the one single thing I find that can heal and destroy at the same time.

There are some authors whose words just stick in your head, and you carry them around forever. Because those words touch your heart, they meld with your soul...and Gabriel Garcia Marquez I find, are one of those authors.

Such a loss to the literary world.

My absolute favourite words of his in one of his books is this:-

"Then he made one last effort to search in his heart for the place where his affection had rotted away, and he could not find it..."

Can you guess which book?

Have a good weekend ahead readers.

Much love from me and Airiel.

Peace and love to everyone.

Books - Recent Haul

Hello readers,

Airiel's concert last Saturday went without a hitch. I managed to keep it all in but when Airiel started reciting his pantun, looking tall and grown up on the stage, I completely lost it and the waterworks started. Haishh, the perils of being a mom.

Anyways, on Sunday I went for a spa, mani pedi thing. Some me time to relax. The spa I bought an I love discounts coupon was in Amcorp mall. It was not the best experience I ever had spa wise but there was one thing good about going there, Book Xcess opened in Amcorp.

And well, look at the haul.

Drool....

Can't wait to read these.

Work awaits. Have a good rest of the week.

Love...

Reading List 2013 [Part 2] - Ari Series

Hey readers,

Monday already ehh? Work awaits but hey, always time for a short post.

I am so excited to share these books I have read with you.

You know what makes these books so exciting? Greek mythology is in it. You know how much I love Greek mythology!

I read the Illiad a million times. Ok, ok lets not get too excited. Give it a read will you. It kind of shows Athena in a bad light, but as you will see by the end of the 2nd book, there is a reason to her madness...

Oh, for those who want to know what Ari means, it is short for Aristanae...pretty name ehh?

Alright readers. Have a good week ahead! I feel good about his week!

Reading LIst 2013 - Part 1

Hey Everyone,

Updates are slow I know...simply because well, I am not doing anything much during my confinement. It is kind of boring going through confinement without a baby to care for. But let's not go there shall we?

This post is about all the books I have read 12 days into my confinement.

Very good reads they are, give them a try will you?

I know the weekend is coming up and I hope everyone enjoys it, although for me the lines of time have become really blurred these days, they just drag and drag on.

My confinement ends on 17th March 2013. Let's hope I do not go crazy with boredom by then.

Until next time.

Reading List 2012 [Part 4] - Percy Jackson series

Hello everyone,

It has been a very busy week. Phewww...

Anyways, in my moments of stress and my family members know this. I either tidy stuff or read to chase the blues away.

And so being preggers, tired and stressed...I walked into Borders and saw a BARGAIN. Buy 1 book and get the 2nd for 50% off. I know some people would think that I am so lame because now there's this e-book thing, but I just can't seem to get into the groove of reading e-books. I still like the real thing.

And you know what made me drool, I saw the Percy Jackson series under the deal section. So I just had to buy it ALL.

Ahhh, there's nothing like reading a good book I'd say. And I love Greek Mythology! I read the Illiad like at least 20 times when I was a kid and we had a little makeshift library at home. Homer is the bomb.

I have read the Lightning Thief, the Sea of Monsters and am now reading the Titan's Curse. Go to Borders and get the perks of the deal guys!

Because I spent quite a bit on the books, I got a free membership and got 2 complimentary memberships as well! Hehe.

It really is truly easy to make me happy.

Have a good rest of the week!

The Rise of NINE

Yes, The Rise of NINE is out people!

And for my readers who do not know what that is, do you remember the movie called 'I am Number Four'? The one where the hot young guy acts in? *Gulp*. hehehehe

Well, that is actually adapted from a book written by Pittacus Lore.

The next book after 'I am Number Four' was called 'The Power of Six'. As usual, I read the books before I even knew a movie was being made of the first book.

And now, the third book in the Lorien series 'The Power of Nine' is out.

Just started reading and I couldn't put it down. One of the benefits of the long wait during medical check ups is that you can casually read! Hehe. I intentionally left the book in the car once I got to the office so I wouldn't be reading it in the office.

Go grab it guys, and by IT I mean the entire series, it is addictive to say the least. I wonder if they are making another movie for these books. Love to see it translate on the silver screen!

Tomorrow is Friday so yeay!

Current Reading List, Part 1 [2012]

Hi readers,

A reader of this blog messaged me and asked me whether I am an avid reader and if I could recommend her some books and update her from time to time on what I read.

Well, the answer would be 'Yes, I love to read'.

Apart from being an avid RPG gamer, I am also an avid reader. I am sort of old fashioned in the sense that I am not an E-book fan. Any books that I read, must be on actual paper. When I was younger, I used to read a lot of 'heavy duty on the mind' sort of books, you know...biographies of serial killers, 500 page biographies of people which I thought was interesting. But these days, after reading hundreds and hundreds of documents, cause papers and whatnot in the office and after being a mother, long winded books tire me, and I no longer have the stomach to read books about serial killers.

So I like reading about fiction and love and stories which are light, whimsical and romantic. These are the series which I am currently or have finished reading this year.

The Black Dagger Brotherhood Series. These I have finished in January when I was real sick. Highly erotic with an engaging and addictive storyline.

The Trylle series. I have finished reading Switched, and in the midst of reading Torn and will start on Ascend once I finish Torn. I bought Switched yesterday and could not put it down. Finished it in just a few hours.

The 'Charley Davidson' series by Darynda Jones. I have read 'First Grave on the Right' but have yet to read the 2nd and 3rd book which I have bought. I like how this series depicts a Private Investigator hot chick named Charley set in our present time, and how she tries to live a normal life save for the fact that you know, she is the GRIM REAPER and also the gateway for lost souls to go to the other side or something (she actually shines!!)... hahaha

Do grab a copy of these if you come across them. Enjoy the rest of the week now!
