Hi readers, some updates on some eateries I frequent in Publika.

Because good things must always be shared.

1. Salon De Chocolat

This place is chock full of people on weekends and they have recently seemed to have renovated to have more room by buying the lot next door.

There are more items on the menu, and just look at what FSD and I had. This is just divine. A must visit if you are a chocolate lover.

2. Xin Chao Restaurant

I have blogged about this place before, click on food on the tags cloud. And this place is just my fave to have lunch and I love love their pho.

NIN decided to order something different the other and needless to say, it was simply divine.

Basically you put a bit of the vegetables and the deep fried shrimp thingy onto the rice paper, roll it up and dip it in the sauce. I am going to try this next although its hard to order anything else but the pho when I come here because its so good. Service is top notch here as well. When the staff saw NIN having trouble because she didnt know how to prepare the food, the chef personally came out to assist her. Swoon!

3. Coffee Stain

Last but not least, who can resist 3rd artsy fartsy coffee after lunch?

It's time for another foodie update.

(i) Morco

First up. Morco has come up with a series of insanely rich drinks. FSD tried the matcha one the other day. And my jaw dropped when I saw it.

The drink is at bottom, but before you get to the drink, be prepared to eat through the following:-

1. 2 bars of kit kat

2. Cornflakes (you can't see it from this picture but its there trust me)

3. There is an entire slice of cake on top of the drink (the original topping is supposed to be a doughnut, but was changed to a cake since the doughnuts were finished); and

4. A very rich layer of cream. 

It was all mind numbingly awesome and is a meal in itself. Ohh and there are other equally jaw dropping concoctions as well. See the menu below.

(ii) Xin Chao Vietnam

This is new vietnamese restaurant open where Bandariya Ayam Kampung once was. It's a few doors down from the Chicken Rice place in Publika.

Right now there is a lunch set where you order a main course and only add RM2.00 for a mini starter and vietnamese tea.

The restaurant is reminds me of the restaurants in Hanoi, look at the pictures adorning the walls!

The condiments. This sets it apart from Pho Hoa in Curve which has a different selection of sauces. This place for instance do not serve fish sauce like Pho Hoa. My absolute fave of the 4 condiments here? The pickled garlic and chilli. Yumms

And this is my noodle. I took the all in Pho with meatballs, tripe and everything thrown in. This retails at RM20.90. The basic normal Pho is RM16.90. It was yummy!

UPDATE:- On a dinner excursion to Xin Chao recently, I was approached by one of the staff and was informed that the manager read my post and immediately went out and made arrangements for fish sauce to be available as a standard condiment to their dishes in the restaurant!. Hehe. So just to update you on this readers!

Ekkamai - Solaris Dutamas

Where are all my updates?

Things have been crazy hectic. And my updates are all somewhere in my phone, head and mind.

Things are always changing in the food scene in Publika/Solaris Dutamas. A new Thai restaurant has taken over the Spanish place, Estillo which was now closed down. NIN and I came across it and decided to pay a visit.

 Ekkamai has been open for about 3 months now said its friendly waiter. It offers lovely lunch sets which are reasonably priced for Publika/Solaris Dutamas' standards (believe me, food prices in this area are ridiculously expensive).

I found the lunch sets a wholesome package. A refreshing pandan drink with a main course and lovely kuih muih are also included. They put out complimentary condiments on the table (cilipadi, chilli flakes, salt, fish sauce) so you don't have to keep on asking for it from the waiter and thats a big plus to me. The stuffed tofu you see below was ordered separately. Deep friend and absolutely delicious.

Do give it a try if you are in the area. It is a good alternative to Thai Cup and Tuk Tuk, also Thai eateries in the area.

Lunch Sets - 1. Two Sons Bistro; 2. Okonomi Sushi; and 3. Episode - Publika/Solaris Dutamas

Happy Lunar New Year to everyone!

By the title you can guess that this is another food update.

My previous posts have talked about these places before except maybe for Episode (scroll down) but now these places are even more awesome because they offer lunch sets.

1. Episode

The only on this list that I have not blogged about before. This place took over from where Pink Sage was before and about 2 restaurants after that. The place looks posh so most of the time people think food is uber expensive. But it actually has really good lunch sets!

Each lunch sets came with a starter salad

If you pick the oriental sets, you get clear asian style soup. This was mine.

If a western set is opted for, you get a soup of the day. For NIN it was pumpkin. 

This is my main course. Rice and Thai Style Chicken with Mango. The chicken was good, and portions substantial.

NIN opted for the western set and chose fish with portobello mushroom. Can you believe this was part of a lunch set? Awesome right?

The pot of tea was not part of lunch (ice lemon tea was) but we decided to have a pot. We chose White Peach Tea. Episode has an awesome selection of teas. We ended up finishing the entire pot. 

Total for the 2 lunch sets and the pot of tea was RM46 i think, which I think in Publika is the standard.

Do give it a try and don't be put off by the posh interior okay!

2. Two Sons Bistro

 

They have also come out with lunch sets! The food here is some of the best in publika apart from silver spoon in my opinion. My absolute fave is the chilli clams (jilat jari beb) with rice and vegetables. First picture shows that it comes in cute metal tiffin carriers. You can also opt for the pasta. All sets come with ice lemon tea. Reasonably priced at around RM18+ together with the drinks.

The lunch set here is a MUST try!

3. Okononomi Sushi

Not to be left behind, okonomi have also introduced their lunch sets!

Err, the pics above are not from the lunch sets, because NIN and I had to order something else on the side and completely forgot to take a pic of the lunch sets themselves. I had the chicken curry katsu set. The lunch sets here is about RM23 together with drinks.

Pheww.. thank God this round of foodie updates are done.

It is 2016! Wehheeee....

No rewind post for me for 2015 and all that crap about being a better person blah blah blah...I am determined to try and be less of an a*&hole this year and every year after that. Wakaka.

Anyway, this is massive foodie post. Might as well start with the most important things in life aka FOOD.

1. Silver Spoon, Solaris Dutamas

I have posted  about this restaurant before and I will post about it again. I have NEVER ordered a single bad dish from this place. It has awesome lunch sets, but NIN and I decided to go ala carte for the last working lunch of 2015 the other day. Sorry about the blurry pics. I am not a photographer and my hands were shaking because I was soooo hungry.

 

My starter, the escargot. Not the typical garlicky ones you find everywhere else and the smell of truffle oil was thoroughly intoxicating. Yummy

NIN's risotto. Again beautifully made and flavourful

My seafood paella. It took 20 mins to make and tasted like the sea...yummy. 

NIN's starter, scallops wrapped around beef bacon strips. The scallops just melted in my mouth and it had the saltiness of the beef bacon strips. Wow, just wow.

I honestly do not understand why people end up eating in Social instead of here, where the food is just excellent. Must do in 2016 for you guys - TRY this place out!

2. Pastel, Solaris Dutamas

Pastel took over from the shop previously known as Coffee Ritual, a place which I also adored and had to say goodbye to. They changed up the decor a bit and the menu now revolves around Korean inspired cafe dishes. NIN and I dropped by for an evening snack before continuing with work so I didn't order mains.

My definition of a snack = Coffee.  No complaints. Love the way it was presented.

 NIN's salmon pasta dish which I couldn't taste (I do not eat fish).

3. Tuk Tuk, Solaris Dutamas

Tuk Tuk is a new place located where Mee Jawa once stood, who have now officially closed down. It has a quirky, funky decor. Almost all the servers and cooks here are Thai, and barely speak English so you know the food is legit Thai food.

I mean its a Thai place, so of course I had to order the Thai Iced tea

My seafood mince basil dish. We usually find minced chicken basil in other shops. It was lovely, and seafood was fresh.

NIN's thai iced lemon tea

NIN's seafood fried rice. Which was also yummy. The egg is from my dish actually, because I am deadly afraid of runny egg yolks (Don't Ask).

This Prawn Sambal Petai was so awesomely spicy good. I have high pedas tolerance (like makan cili padi mcm ulam punya standard) and even then this blew my head off. But you just wanted more and more of it. Addictive.

A good thai place which you guys must try. All the dishes and drinks came up to about RM70ish though so it isn't entirely budget, but the food is good.

4. Eat with Mune, Solaris Dutamas

This is another place that stands where the old London Town was. It's sort of a healthy food place concept, where they have malay and western dishes with a healthy twist. Only I ate because NIN had already eaten after court.

I ordered Nasi Ulam or the healthy version of it rather. It was good enough for healthy food, I guess. Not an entirely budget place either as this dish can set you back around RM30+.

5. Two Sons Bistro, Solaris Dutamas

Two Sons Bistro now stood where the old Dr. Cafe once was (I cried when this place shut down...sob sob). NIN and I only ventured here for tea, so we didnt order any mains when we came. We have yet to try the other dishes on the menu. Maybe I'll do that later this year.

Lamb meatballs with gravy. Finger licking good.

This is my beef salad (can't remember the proper name). Good but not entirely memorable. The beef was tender and flavourful though.

The restaurant is promising and I'll visit again and give you guys an update.

6. BBQ Chicken, One City (USJ25)

This is the last listing, but was a hidden gem I found wondering around while I was hungry. It's located next to Gloria Jeans Coffee in One City Mall, which is connected to One.City hotel.

Paris Wings, lovely caramelised sauce to accompany it. 

This Jerk Chicken is AMAZING. Come here and order this and nothing else. You know why the picture looks like this? Thats because I had eaten half of it before I remembered that I should have taken a picture. Good things must be shared. Order this, you will not regret it. 

No other pics were taken, because it was all gobbled up. This place is almost always full though, so you may have to wait a little for your food. But I would come here again and again for the Jerk Chicken (adoi terliurr).
