Public Hospital Experience - University Hospital

Hello readers,

Some of my readers have been asking me how my experience was in University Hospital this time around for my c-sect.

Well, I can't say my experience can be the same as normal patients, as my situation was far from normal, but it was a pleasant and lovely stay.

I was bleeding by the 1st of February 2013 and drove to the hospital. I was admitted straight away. Everything was a blur as the nurses and doctors moved so fast. They just couldn't wait as Akif had to be taken out ASAP. But the rooms and facilities were all very comfortable. I had my own room while waiting for the operation. The nurses were all kind and soft spoken. I was of course, the subject of great interest of all the housemans in the hospital who came and saw me in droves to ask me about the hydrops and Akif.

I had a very cheery doctor who did my emergency c-sect. He was singing and cheery all throughout the c-sect. Hahaha.

Whilst waiting in the recovery room, I remember feeling extremely cold (I was shivering), the paediatricians kept me updated with news on Akif. I am extremely grateful to them for holding my hand and comforting me while delivering the updates and finally the news of Akif's passing.

Instead of the post natal ward, they took me to the ante-natal ward and later transferred me to a single room so I won't be stressed hearing the other patients talk about their upcoming deliveries or hearing heartbeats of other babies during the scans for other patients. The nurses were lovely and kind.

I left the very next day because I was already walking and had bowel movements and all (crazy right? but I was so desperate to leave because I am not a fan of hospitals, so I made a point to get up and move it despite the pain).

The best part about everything is the bill, which came up to about RM800 bucks only! I mean seriously? RM800 bucks for emergency c-sect, ward stays and everything else and top notch, kind service.

I would recommend it to anyone and everyone. The facilities are new because UH has set up a new building for moms and kids. So its uber comfortable.

Remember, the key to government hospitals is to not complain and whine about every single little thing (it ain't no 5 star hotel ok so janganla nak melebih pulak?). Be nice and they will be nice to you.

19 days left to my confinement and I can't wait huhu..

Bye readers

Pantang Essentials - Part 1

Hi Everyone,

First and foremost I would like to thank everyone for their prayers and support ever since Akif was diagnosed with hydrops. It really means a lot to me and Aries. We are hoping for the best but at the same time are prepared for the worst and are exhausting all avenues against this disease.

More details on Akif's journey when the results from my amnio and blood tests come back and the results of the next ultrasound as well. I will also post more about hydrops and hydrop babies as well. When I went for the ultrasound at the feto maternal specialist in University Hospital, there were at least 2 other couples with hydrop babies and all parents out there should know that they are not alone in this. Akif is still going strong and fighting at this point.

Because of the uncertainty on how things may turn out, I have already ordered and received my pantang set and a few extras.

These are from bidanbersalin

I also ordered an extra bottle of phytonatal as well.

I already have my amway bengkung from the time when I was preggers with Airiel so depending on how comfortable I am with this one, I may just use the old one. I may have to have another c-section so I suppose I also need to buy a c-sect bengkung just in case. Any suggestions anyone on a good bengkung for c-sect?

Preggy Updates - Baby in Tummy No. 2

Hello Readers,

Moving on to my preggy updates now.

I am at 28 weeks now and everything is looking good at the moment. Alhamdulillah.

So far I have gained about 8kgs throughout the pregnancy which is a good weight. One thing about gov. check ups is that they monitor EVERYTHING. No sugar coating about weight, diet, sugar levels or anything. I am not supposed to gain more than 11-12 kgs max until I am at 40 weeks and they do scold you if you gain more than what is allowed as healthy. That is why I get horrified when I see other people I know gain 15, 18 heck even 20 kgs throughout pregnancy! I automatically can tell that these ones must go for checkups at private hospitals! No way will they allow you to gain that much weight in gov. checkups. I can imagine the scolding kalau diorg kat klinik kerajaan wooo...hehehe. It is one of the reasons I could easily drop the weight after Airiel was born.

My first 'minum air gula' session was ok and I am not diabetic. But they are making me drink it a second time because of family history (my mum is diabetic). Hadoiii, aper sajela kan asal ibu dan anak sihat.

I do not know the gender yet and will be meeting a gynae this weekend to discuss my options, i.e. elective c-sect and to do a 4d scan as well.

My shopping for this second one has been slow because as I said in my previous preggers post, shopping for baby items causes me great discomfort. I'd rather buy jewelry (totally irrelevant I know) hahahaha...

These are my team members, at our recent team dinner...Yours truly at 28 weeks

Man, I feel so preggers but I thought I would immortalise this since I kept no pics of me being pregnant with Airiel at all..28 weeks preggers...

Starting tomorrow, I will start buying items for pantang and for baby, so I will keep you guys updated ok?

Happy holidays everyone.

Must Haves - Body Aches during Pregnancy

Hello Everyone,

Inching into week 26-27 of pregger-world isn't really an 'amazing' or 'wonderful' experience (moms who says otherwise are crazy I tell you!).

Anyways, I keep these products handy and they are indispensable for my body and muscle aches.

 Easy to apply but it has a strong smell equally hot sensation... I use the less smelly one

Gotta have the vicks when a headache hits me!

 and my ultimate fave, minyak yu yee.

All israel free, of course.

Am still chock full of hearings this week, wish me luck...

Breast Pumps Galore

Hello readers,

WARNING : The word 'breast' appears a lot in this post. If you somehow get touchy about that, then well, too bad for you.

I have mentioned that I am still surveying breast pumps in one of my earlier posts which for the life of me, I can't find.

No matter. I have surveyed here and there, and have narrowed down the options. I think I am going to purchase mine from LittleWhiz or BabyLoft. I have to buy the double pump because I do not want to waste time pumping, so here goes the options:-

1. Ameda Lactaline Dual Breastpump

It's on sale at both littlewhiz and babyloft and goes for about RM799 - 900 depending on the packages you pick. The reviews on it in Mumnet are mixed but generally positive. Definitely not as expensive as Medela.

2. Ardo Calypso Double Breastpump

Its on sale at Babyloft and goes for about RM750 to RM880 depending on the package that you pick. There are not a lot of reviews for this pump because its relatively new in the market, but overall its positive and happy feedback. You can look here:-

(a) Debalicious Review :- http://www.debalicious.com/2012/04/review-ardo-calypso-breast-pump.html; and
(b) http://www.mummysreviews.com/2012/03/29/review-ardo-calypso-amaryll-breastpump/

3. Medela Freestyle Double Pump

Definitely the most established brand name out there, and of course the most expensive one of all. Babyloft sells the package which is on sale at the moment from RM1600 (ouch!!!). Littlewhiz is currently having a promotion package which retails for RM2000 (ayoyo!). The reviews are of course stellar, although a lot say that it has a lot of parts and maybe confusing to use at first.

4. Rumble Tuff Double Pump

This is by far the cheapest option out of the lot for a double pump and packages from littlewhiz and babyloft does not exceed RM450!. Also relatively new in the market, reviews are few and far betweem. Whatever reviews online available, it seems to indicate  that apart from draining batteries like a vampire, the rest are all positive reviews. This is definitely on my shortlisted breastpumps.

5. Spectra Dew 350 Double Breast Pump

Ok, this is the last option on my shortlist. Also relatively reasonable in price. Around RM400-700 depending on what packages you pick. Reviews are great because its actually a hospital grade pump. The only downside to this pump is I have read that it is heavy and crazy berat to lug around (although that should help in burning calories hahahaha.)

Alright my lovelies. Drop me a line if you have any other suggestions or have used any of the brands above and let me know k?

Am off to record a consent judgment which means my 2 week trial has been vacated! Yeay for settlement. Have a good start to the week.

My Stretch Mark Cream

Hello readers,

A reader has asked me what kind of stretch mark cream I use. During my pregnancy with Airiel, I used a variety, but mostly 2 brands

I realised this 2nd time around that I am allergic to Bio Oil, and when I use it I start getting red splodges on my skin that itches like mad.

So now I am using Pureen and it has worked like a charm so far.  Invest in these creams because those stretch marks are FUGLY babes!.

And I have checked both products and they seem to be Israel free. If anybody knows otherwise,  please let me know.

Prenatal Spa - Dewi Sri Spa, Plaza Damas

Hello everyone. Its a FRIDAY! huhu

Anyways, I want to share with all my preggy readers out there that I have found an absolutely heavenly spa place that can do spa treatments for a preggy lady like me.

It's called Dewi Sri Spa at Plaza Damas.

The preggy treatments are not stated on their websites but when you call them and make an appointment, state that you are x months preggers and they will recommend and modify their massages to cater to your month of pregnancy.

I had the relaxing package which was for a full 3 hours at a bargain price of RM260 which I think is way cheaper than Khareyana spa 90 min prenatal massage for RM200. So I had a 90 min massage, a 60 min lulur and hair treatment for the remainder of the time (which you can switch to a facial).

It was so so relaxing! and my pregnancy aches are totally gone! Syiokk...

This is the link to the spa. Give it a try preggy friends!

My fave Maternity Wear Websites

Hello readers,

I hate shopping since having a baby in my tummy. I have not bought a single thing online since being preggers save for Baju Raya Airiel, and only went out shopping once to buy baju raya for Aries and Airiel haritu.

Aries was itching to buy some shirts and khaki pants, Airiel needed some legos and puzzles to suit his playing needs at this age. And I needed to buy some maternity wear stat. Tried looking for the belly belt in some baby shops in paradigm tapi takde pulak.

What I noticed was, wow maternity clothes are expensive! Terbeliak mata Aries masa membayar, and I get his surprise since you are only wearing it for 9 months at a time. Anyways, I have packed my normal clothes (not pants since they still fit with the aid of the belly belt). Just a few websites which may be of help in helping mommies out there look fab and without busting their budget!

1. Mammahouse;
2. Justmum;
3. Summerglitz;
4. Motherclub (they have a boutique in Paradigm, not that cheap but I snagged some cute tops which were 50% off last weekend);
5. Honeymama;
6. Autumnz;
7. Danita Maternity;;
8. DressMi;
9. BabyBumpMaternity;
10. Celebritymum;
11. Blessedmums;
12. Cetot; and
13. Spring Maternity.

I am multitasking whilst blogging and working because I have tons to do this week! And since I will be away at the IMLC conference from Wed till Friday, I only have until tomorrow to sort things out. And I have a hearing tomorrow morning, shuishhh...

Have a good and productive weekend everyone. No room for lazies!

My Top 10 Shopping Websites for Moms to Be/Moms

Hello,

Semenjak dua menjak di ramai pulak yang bertanya whether I have regular websites that I go to untuk mencuci mata kalau nak tgk barang baby or breastpumps atau yang berkaitan dengannya. Ok, I will list down my top 12 websites that I usually surf through for baby stuff or preggy stuff.

Warning : PRODUCTS IN THESE WEBSITES CAN BE EXTREMELY CUTE AND IRRESISTIBLE. Click at your own risk. Ok, with that disclaimer sorted out, let's go to the list.

1. EnjoyBreastFeed - As the title of the website would indicate, this website caters to everything breastfeeding. It has a large section for baby products as well. I also love that the website is in pink!

2. Littlewhiz - This is a pretty comprehensive site that deals with everything from baby furniture and bedding, to baby slings to baby food. You can spend hours just looking at the products! If you're not satisfied with just looking at the products online, go to their shop in Section U13, Setia Alam;

3. Moms Little Ones - This online shop has a lot of offline branches and has the standard items of breastpumps, nursing and maternity apparels and breastcare products. One feature which I like is that you can opt for notifications on updates/restocking of one particular product which you like to be sent to your e-mail if you want!;

4. Baby Care Malaysia - This online shop does not sell breastpumps, but instead concentrates on maternity wear, baby apparels, cloth diapers and toys for kids. The cloth diapers are super cute!;

5. Kasihku Sayangku - Like Littlewhiz, it offers tons of stuff which you can go through and surf for hours on end. It even sells gift sets and books, cd and dvds for kids and mothers to be;

6. Fabulousmoms - This is my personal favourite website and it also has a number of offline branches which you can visit. What I like about this website is the maternity bras they sell! The items sold are extensive!;

7. Babyloft - I still have not finished going through the products listed in their website. From carseats, to strollers, to bouncers, walkers, you name it..they have everything baby! They also have a 3D hand and feet sculpting service for you to immortalise the memory of your baby! How cool is that. Another plus is that Babyloft has a branch in Publika, Solaris Dutamas where I work. I found one product here which I am seriously contemplating buying - Simple Wishes : Hands Free Pumping Bra;

8. Babies Kingdom - They do not sell breastpumps on their website, but do sell baby car seats and carriers, baby furniture and bedding and strollers and buggies;

9.  Kedai Ibu  - They have an extensive collection of breastpumps, breastpump accessories, even NR set bersalin, Islamic books untuk belajar Al-Quran and all. They even sell barut and bedung, even used breastpumps; and

10. MyBBstore - There all manner of items neatly categorised not only by category, but by 'Best Seller', 'Award Winners', by 'Brand', 'On Sale' and 'New Arrivals'.

Alright readers. Hope the list helps you guys out. Please drop me a line at FB or pm me at my yahoo if you need to know anything else.

Have a good weekend ahead.

Baby in Tummy No. 2 - Private Hospitals v Public Hospitals

Hello Everyone.

This post shall be about my dilemma on whether to go private or not for the delivery of Baby in Tummy No. 2.

I have nothing against public hospitals. In fact public hospitals are my first choice when it comes to delivery. In fact, I choose to go for my check up at public clinics i.e. Klinik Kesihatan. I think the checkups  are really thorough and the doctors and nurses always tell you what you need to hear (you shouldn't gain so much weight, you're eating too much sugar...bla bla bla) as opposed to what you want to hear kan.

I really have not experienced any of the horror stories yang org semua crite which you can find on the Internet pasal delivery in public hospital and I went to HKL of all places. The nurses were always nice even in the wards. I think the key is for you to be a nice person, if you're nice they will be equally nice to you. The facilities are not the best though and the nurses expect you to be independent, which I find to be ok although might be a bit taxing for those going through ceaser like me the last time.

Anyways, the reason the option of private hospital even came up is because the number of kids I wish to have. The chances of me going through a natural birth this time around is slim. But public hospitals will make you try to attempt it. My fear is that I may have to go through another emergency c-sect which I do not want to have. I would rather have an elective c-sect. If I go through the c-sect in a planned manner without complications and distress to the baby, and with the same doctor who knows my c-sect wound, I am hoping to attempt to have 4 or even maybe 5 kids via elective c-sect. If I keep having emergency c-sects. I may be stopped at 3 kids only. I am just trying to expand my options. Kalau dah rezeki sampai 3 je nak buat mcmmana, tapi kalau boleh nak 4 or 5 kids, it is an option which I would like to have.

My firm does not cover maternity expenses so Aries and I are pretty much on our own in terms of budget. Duit tu memang ada, but I just do not want to spend so much money on hospital bills sebenarnya. I mean, baik simpan utk their education ke hape kan? Sakit bersalin or luka c-sect pun sama je kat mana mana. And kalau bill sampai 10 ribu, I really think its such a waste of money. Baik belanja beli barang or spend on postnatal care for myself ke ape.

I have surveyed a few private hospitals yang dekat kat rumah and have narrowed down my options:-

1. Kelana Jaya Medical Centre (paling dekat, 2 minit dari rumah);

2. Sime Darby Ara Damansara Medical Centre (ini dekat jugak, 5 minit je tapi tak tahulah ada gynae ke tak sbb this a really new centre);

3. KPJ Selangor (Shah Alam);

4. Shah Alam Specialist Centre (SALAM) , their elective c-sect package is RM5555, link is here; and

5. Darul Ehsan Medical Centre (DEMC).

Anybody who knows how much (range) for an elective c-sect for the places above please let me know k?

Another option which I find attractive is the Full Paying Patient programme in Hospital Selayang and Hospital Putrajaya. Costs wise, a lot cheaper than private hospitals and I hear the facilities are superb. And I feel more confident because it is generally a government hospital only in the private wing of the same.

If anybody had experience as a FPP in these hospitals, please drop me a line. Would really appreciate it!

Hugs!

Baby in Tummy No. 2 - List of Main Things to Buy/Do

Hello everyone.

It has been quite some time since Airiel and this 2nd baby. I am more than thankful everything is going on allright. Am just hoping for the best and that everything will go smoothly.

Anyways, before I forget I need to list all these things down to buy for Baby in Tummy No. 2.

List

1. Medela Freestyle Breastpump (Costs a freaking bomb, any ideas on website I can go to to buy one at a discount?), breastmilk storage bags, yada yada yada. I am determined to at least let this next baby have my milk for one (1) year at least (Airiel sempat 6 months sahaja, sedey);

2. Bantal, Tilam Kekabu ( Should get one for Airiel as well). You can try these websites for the bantal kekabu:-

3. Minyak Telon and kelengkapan kecil lain yang perlu for the little one ( I must get the Amway Minyak Telon, it works like a charm) - you can go here http://www.bidanbersalin.blogspot.com/;

4. Clothes (little cute gloves and all), barut, diapers, baju lubang lubang sgt penting;

5. My Berpantang Set (thinking of Nona Roguy this time - any views on the Nona Roguy set?);

6. My hospital bag; and

7. Deciding where to have the birth and in what way. ( I will write another post on this)

Darn it, I can't for the life of me remember what I am supposed to do apart from that. Maybe I will list it down as I waddle along the other trimesters.

By the way, I found out that a place called Sould Nibbana Spa in PJ offers prenatal massages. Am thinking of going la plak. Has anybody been there? Please pm me and let me know how it was.

Okay, have a good week ahead guys.  Much love.

Allergic to Shopping

Those who know me knows that I LOVE to shop. Tanyalah puan Huda Zuhrah ok? Hahaha

But this pregnancy has turned my life upside down. The mere thought of buying something will make me want to vomit. Yes, it makes me sick to even think of buying something, tak kiralah online shopping ke, shopping betul ke. When my sister mentions the word 'shopping raya' to my mum and when they want to go, I just go AHHH...and run away for my life as it makes me physically sick.

Adakah ini doa Aries to curb down on wifey's shopping habit haha? (padahal Aries lagilah suka shopping).

And yes it is BAD, I look at bags which I used to love buying and I can't stand looking at them at all. Its just way too weird.

Whilst this maybe money saving for Aries, its also bad because I have NOT bought anything for Raya. NOTHING. Apart from my baju raya which dah ditempah some months back, I have bought nothing else for Aries or Airiel. So they still don't have Baju Melayu, Baju Raya, kasut raya, anything raya lah. ZERO.

I feel so bad. This means that I must buy everything this weekend. How am I supposed to do that when even the thought of shopping makes me vomit? Sigh.

Anyways, in between vomiting I managed to buy some baju sets for Airiel  (Yes, in between surfing for the baju, filling out the ordering form and later paying, I was vomiting). These are from Baby and Kids Land:-

Hoo boy, looking at these pics makes me want to heave. Ok guys, please take care. I'm gonna go vomit now.

Post Natal/Confinement Packages/ Pakej Berpantang

Hello Everyone,

I am currently doing some research on post natal/confinement/berpantang packages. Kalau makanan tu mmg Nenda is tip top punya strict. But bab bertungku, berbengkung, mandi herba and everything else tu, Nenda mmg tak mampu nak bantu sgt because she is working. She maybe will take leave for me for about a week into childbirth but after that, tak tahulah siapa nak tolong.

Nenda dulu memanglah bertuah, Atuk byk membantu dalam pantang, dia lah yang ikatkan daun mengkudu kat tungku, panaskan tungku dan tungkukan semua ikut cerita Nenda, but Aries mana ada kat rumah, kerje pun jauh, so I will obviously be on my own.

So I decided to go online in search of websites and people who provide this service. I found a few which I want to share with you guys:-

Allright guys. This is what I found from my rather exhaustive search. I hope it helps all the other ladies out there. I sort of have decided who I want to book and her prices are very reasonable.

I tell you, these things are not cheap. But if it helps you in regaining your health and shape back, I am down for it.

I hope everybody has a good weekend ahead. I am slightly miserable because I can't travel and Aries has taken Airiel to balik kampung in Kelantan. I am so JEALOUS thinking of the delicious food my MIL is gonna cook and Aries is going to eat. Huarghhh...!

For more packages click here or the tag in my cloud of tags that says postnatal packages/berpantang packages okay?

Trying to survive morning sickness

If you find stories on vomiting every 5 minutes gross, I suggest you leave this post straight away.

When I was preggers with Airiel, I only vomited in the morning (like heavy vomiting) which did suck but at least I would be alright for the rest of the day. No queasiness after that.

Well, this one...this one is on a whole other level. I feel like heaving every 5 mins. I can't bring myself to eat or drink at all, I can't even stand the smell of food. Actually, what I realised is, even the mention of a particular dish would make my eyes water and want to vomit.

Yuck, to top it all off, its fasting month and the icing on the cake would be none other than the fact that I still have to go to work every single day.

I am just trying to keep fluids down at the moment so that I don't end up at the hospital. For that reason, my sis' advice was perhaps to not fast for the time being until I feel much better and vomit less. I am thinking if I get no food and fluid down, I might harm myself and the baby.

Terpaksalah qadha puasa pulak ...haishh..

Tough week ahead for me my readers...hope yours are better...
